I’m jealous of how effectively you distill your writing. I feel like if I miss a word/sentence I risk losing an insight.

I really liked this paragraph because it cuts through the moral sentiments one ~is supposed to feel~ about the thread of his own past:

When we enter the world, we are "thrown" into a context. We have a family and, by extension, ancestors. Our family has a History. Our community has a History. We are shaped by the particular Histories, the particular context, we are thrown into. We do not choose these. Souls are not sitting up in heaven going "hmmm...I want that family."

Your piece also reminds me of the last section of Beyond Good & Evil, specifically Nietzsche’s exploration of the individual within a community. Excuse the ugly url:
