Depends on how you define "socialism". I think there's a space between "liberal woke shit" and "socialism" that is more about whether the welfare state is for EVERYONE, or weather it's means-tested. UBI would be for everyone. Parks are for everyone. Public transit is for everyone. Public libraries are for everyone. Public education, sort of. The Democrats of 2021 really hate these things, they like programs where you have to qualify, where they can set eligibility requirements, which means that people are dependent on them to qualify. Which means people will vote for them, and lobby them. The Republicans can credibly be for a neutral welfare state, where everyone can benefit from strong public institutions. Maybe we can even wage a fight against public employee unions on behalf of the people who aren't being served properly because of union rules. Like victims of police brutality for example. Or students in failing schools. But also yes small businesses being taxed and regulated to death. There's a guy on my street with a bumper sticker that reads, "Keep Your Government Hands Off My Social Security and Medicare!" Democrats mock that. Republicans should defend it.
